Two quotes of the day:
“Wise are those who learn that the bottom line doesn’t always have to be their top priority.”
- William Arthur Ward
“Profit in business comes from repeat customers,
customers that boast about your project or service, and that bring friends with
them.”
- W. Edwards Deming
The bottom line for a
company is obviously important, but it is also important not to forget the
reason you started a business. If you consistently
get the core things “right”, and people catch on to the good things you’re
doing as a company, the bottom line with take care of itself.
I strongly believe that
building relationships in life is the best way to effect your “bottom line” in
life. I had a coach that once preached “In
life you only need to worry about three things, and the rest will follow;
Family, work, and dedication.” Do the best you can with family and work, and be
dedicated to the commitments you make in life.
The rest will follow along on your coattails.
If you only see opportunities
in hues of green, you are destined to stray away from the core mission of your
company. Have the guts to take chances
that might cost the company in the short term, but the vision to foresee how that
chance could effect the bottom line at a later point in the company’s history.
Plant a seed of a
cherry. Grow your first fruits in 7-10 years.
Make a cherry pie.
Make another pie from
the canned cherry pie filling from the supermarket.
Sell them both and see
which one sells better and is appreciated by your customers…
Which will feel more gratifying
for your employees who helped you along the way?
